The Green Star Polyp Coral (Pachyclavularia sp.) is a vibrant, fast-growing soft coral that brings motion and colour to any marine aquarium. Known for its bright green or purple mat and extended waving polyps, the Green Star Polyp creates a lush, grass-like carpet that sways gently with water flow, adding a dynamic visual layer to your underwater environment. This coral is especially well-suited to the Living Ecosystem Aquarium due to its hardiness, adaptability, and aesthetic appeal.
Green Star Polyps are often encrusting, spreading across rockwork and even vertical surfaces, making them ideal for creating living backdrops or covering artificial structures like Living Blocks. Their neon-green fluorescence under blue lighting makes them a standout feature in reef aquariums.
With low to moderate lighting and medium water flow, Green Star Polyps thrive in a variety of conditions. They are low-maintenance and resilient, capable of tolerating fluctuations in water quality, which makes them ideal for aquariums designed for minimal upkeep. Their flowing polyps also contribute to a more natural, active reefscape that encourages engagement and connection.
Reproduction
Green Star Polyps reproduce asexually by spreading their mat-like base, or stolon, over nearby surfaces. As they expand, new polyps emerge from the mat, forming new colonies. This encrusting growth habit makes them a self-propagating coral that can cover available space rapidly, enhancing the living element of the reef system. Regular trimming can be used to manage growth and maintain desired aquascape structure.
