The Velvet Tree Coral (Sinularia sp.) is a fast-growing, hardy soft coral native to Western Australian reefs, prized for its vertical, lobed growth and soft blue-toned colouration. Its upright, finger-like branches offer natural structure and movement, making it ideal for adding height and function to reef aquascapes.

Its colouration ranges from pale pearl blue to violet, often with a gentle reflective sheen under low-spectrum or actinic lighting. The soft, leathery texture supports subtle movement in water flow, while its dense branching growth provides valuable shelter and shaded zones for clownfish and other reef species.

This coral thrives in low light conditions and prefers moderate to strong water flow, making it perfectly suited for mid to upper reef placements on Living Blocks. It is tolerant of varied water parameters and adapts well to systems with active nutrient cycling — a reliable performer in long-term reef displays.

Reproduction
The Velvet Tree Coral reproduces asexually through fragmentation, with broken or detached lobes capable of reattaching and developing into new colonies. Its growth habit makes it an excellent choice for creating vertical reef structure quickly and supporting reef habitat function.

This coral reflects the rugged beauty and resilience of Western Australia’s coral coast and complements Living Oceans’ focus on low-maintenance, sustainable reef-building using aquacultured species.
