Are your Fish Getting Enough Food

Transcript

Ben and Sev talk through a common concern new aquarium owners have, what happens if one fish doesn’t seem to be getting enough food?

At feeding time, it can sometimes look like the faster fish are getting to everything first.

But Ben explains that in a healthy Living Oceans aquarium, fish aren’t relying only on pellets.

The reef itself becomes a food source.

Inside the ecosystem there are naturally occurring:

  • copepods
  • tiny invertebrates
  • microorganisms
  • plant material

Clownfish are omnivores, which means they naturally feed on both plants and small animals.

That’s why you’ll often see them picking around the rocks and grazing throughout the day.

So if a fish looks like it missed a pellet or two, it’s usually not something to worry about.

That said, Ben still recommends keeping an eye on feeding behaviour and making sure each fish gets a chance to grab some food.

The goal isn’t lots of feeding, it’s making sure the ecosystem supports natural feeding behaviour too.

Thanks for watching.
