Coral Health
Transcript
This video is about coral health in your marine aquarium.
Most importantly with corals, they all react differently, all the different species. And even the same species will change during day and night.
So it's important that you get to understand the coral behavior and do your research before you panic that it's something maybe wrong.
If you are having extended issues, particularly with the leather corals or your tree corals, and they're attracted for long periods, consider they may be in competition with corals nearby, so they might be getting stung by the nearby coral or they might not be getting the right water movement or lighting.
We just don't understand all the variables are played for every coral, so try moving it to a different place in the reef.
When it's happy:
- it'll extend its polyps
- it'll fill up with water
- be bigger and more beautiful than ever
If it's retracted, don't stress too much, give it a few days, and over an extended period, try moving it to another place in the reef.
All corals will normally retract at night time and come out during the day, so they change day to night, so get to understand that.
Let the corals, for example, they can retract for days or weeks on end, it's part of their natural cycle.
When they are ready to come back to life, they can sometimes shed a waxy coating, almost like a snake shedding at skin. And when they do, the polyps will extend and they'll look healthy again.
Mushroom curls and slimy curls like zenia can actually detach from their base altogether. They can float around the tank. They can be a pain. They can go under the reef.
Try to get them out again and put them up in the reef somewhere in the shelter place, you won't be at a glom because that's slimy. Place them in a rock somewhere and hopefully they reattach to the reef.
They should maintain your coral health in your aquarium.
So most importantly, you need to get to understand the behaviour of the corals in your tank, give them time to recover before you panic and hopefully you have a healthy and happy marine aquarium.
Thanks for watching.
