Coral Reproduction

Transcript

Here’s a cleaner version in the same educational, documentary-style format:

Here in one of the Living Oceans display aquariums, these green mushroom corals are starting to divide and spread across the reef.

You can already see the process beginning.

The mouth of the coral starts to split inward, and over the next few days that single coral will separate into two.

That’s how mushroom corals reproduce and gradually form colonies throughout the aquarium.

As the reef matures and space becomes limited, some corals may detach and move around the tank looking for a better position.

In this aquarium, one of the mushrooms has dropped onto the sand, likely pushed away as nearby corals compete for space and territory.

Corals are constantly adapting to their environment.

Over time you’ll notice:

  • colonies expanding
  • corals dividing
  • movement across the reef
  • natural competition between species

It’s all part of a living ecosystem continuing to grow and evolve.

Thanks for watching.
