That's exactly why we developed the Living Blocks Reef System. Rather than relying on traditional artificial rock, we created a modular reef that solves many of the challenges reef keepers face when setting up, maintaining, and transporting an aquarium.

Why We Created Living Blocks

When designing the Living Oceans Aquarium, we found that existing artificial reef products didn't quite meet our expectations.

Many traditional reef structures are heavy, expensive, and permanently fixed once they're assembled. Making changes often means dismantling sections of the aquarium underwater, creating unnecessary stress for both the aquarist and the livestock.

We wanted something more practical. The result was the Living Blocks Reef System, a lightweight, modular reef designed specifically for flexibility, maintenance, and long-term enjoyment.

A Reef That Clicks Together

Unlike conventional artificial rock, Living Blocks are designed to connect together as a single, stable structure.

This modular design creates a reef that feels natural while remaining incredibly easy to work with. It also gives you the freedom to build an open aquascape with plenty of swimming space for your Livestock, while providing secure locations for your Coral Livestock to grow.

As your reef matures, you can continue refining your aquascape without needing to rebuild the entire aquarium.

Easy to Remove, Easy to Maintain

One of the biggest advantages of the Living Blocks Reef System is how simple it makes aquarium maintenance.

Because the reef can be lifted out as a complete structure, many maintenance tasks become far easier than they would be with permanently stacked rock. Whether you're deep cleaning, repositioning corals, or inspecting the reef, you can work comfortably outside the aquarium before returning the entire structure to the tank.

This approach reduces disruption and gives you much greater control when caring for your reef.

Simplifying Fish Care

Anyone who has tried catching a fish in a fully aquascaped marine aquarium knows how challenging it can be.

With a removable reef structure, the process becomes much simpler. Instead of chasing fish through narrow rock crevices, you can temporarily remove the reef, creating open swimming space that makes catching or relocating livestock significantly less stressful for both you and your fish.

It's a practical feature that many aquarium owners don't realise they'll appreciate until they need it.

Flexible Coral Placement

As corals grow, their lighting and water flow requirements can change. Having the ability to adjust their position without working entirely underwater makes reef maintenance much more manageable.

The Living Blocks Reef System allows you to remove the structure and reposition Coral Livestock comfortably outside the aquarium before placing the reef back into position. This makes aquascaping easier, protects surrounding corals from accidental damage, and gives you the flexibility to refine your reef as it matures.
