The Living Oceans Filter Media Mix contains two premium filter media designed to maintain excellent water quality and support a healthy aquarium.

- 1 × 200 g Activated Carbon
- 1 × 200 g Phosphate Remover (GFO)
Both media are supplied in reusable mesh bags, ready to place directly into your filter.
Filter Media Replacement
Like all filter media, Activated Carbon and Phosphate Remover (GFO) gradually become exhausted as they absorb contaminants and nutrients. For best performance, replace the media every 1–3 months, or as directed by a Living Oceans treatment or maintenance plan.
Activated Carbon (Black) – 200 g
Activated Carbon removes dissolved organic compounds and contaminants that cannot be captured by mechanical filtration.
It helps:
- Remove yellowing compounds and improve water clarity.
- Remove toxins released by corals and other marine organisms.
- Remove dissolved organic contaminants.
- Remove residual medications after treatment.
- Reduce odours and improve overall water quality.
Activated Carbon is suitable for routine use but should be temporarily removed when using aquarium treatments, if directed by the treatment instructions.
Phosphate Remover (GFO) (White) – 200 g
Granular Ferric Oxide (GFO) is a highly effective adsorption media used to reduce elevated phosphate levels while also helping remove dissolved silicates and certain heavy metals from aquarium water.
It helps:
- Lower elevated phosphate (PO₄) levels.
- Remove dissolved silicates that can contribute to diatom blooms.
- Adsorb certain heavy metals from the water.
- Reduce nuisance algae caused by elevated nutrients.
- Improve long-term water quality and ecosystem stability.
Important: Phosphate Remover should only be used when phosphate levels are above the desired range. If phosphate becomes undetectable or falls below 0.03 ppm, remove the GFO from the filter until phosphate returns to the recommended range. Maintaining a small amount of phosphate is essential for a stable and healthy Living Oceans Ecosystem.
Recommended Use
