The sustainably sourced Zombie Snail (Nassarius spp.) is a fast-moving, sand-sifting detritivore known for its ability to rapidly locate and consume decomposing matter. It plays a key role in waste processing and aerating the substrate in reef systems.

In natural environments, Nassarius snails contribute to the health of benthic ecosystems by removing detritus and uneaten food before it breaks down into harmful nutrients. Their activity promotes oxygenation of the sand and prevents anaerobic dead zones.

In the Living Ecosystems Aquarium, Zombie Snails are a vital part of the clean-up crew, especially in tanks with high fish feeding. Their active scavenging helps prevent nutrient spikes and supports the natural cycling processes of the Living Sand biome.

Reproduction:
In captivity, Nassarius snails may lay small egg capsules, although successful breeding is uncommon without specialised larval care.
