Do's and Don'ts Before Going on Holidays

Going on Holiday? Here's How to Prepare Your Aquarium

One of the advantages of a Living Oceans aquarium is that it can continue running with very little intervention while you're away.

If you're heading off for a short holiday, a few simple checks before you leave are usually all that's needed.

Before You Leave

Before leaving for up to a week, make sure you:

  • top up the auto feeder
  • fill the freshwater reservoir to replace evaporation
  • check that all equipment is operating normally

Once that's done, your aquarium is ready to continue running as usual.

If You'll Be Away Longer

For holidays longer than a week, it's worth adding a little extra peace of mind.

You could:

  • set up a webcam so you can check on the aquarium remotely
  • ask a friend, neighbour, or family member to inspect it every few days

A simple visual check is often enough to make sure everything is running as expected.

Avoid Making Big Changes Before You Go

One of the most important tips is to keep the aquarium stable before you leave.

Avoid making major changes such as:

  • performing a large water change
  • adding bacteria or other treatments
  • making unnecessary adjustments to the system

A stable aquarium is a healthy aquarium. The best approach is to leave everything running exactly as it has been.

Let the Ecosystem Do the Work

Living Oceans aquariums are designed to maintain a balanced marine ecosystem.

With the food topped up, the freshwater reservoir filled, and the system left undisturbed, your aquarium can continue thriving while you enjoy your holiday.
