In-The-Tank: Cora, The Coral Polyp

Transcript

Welcome to In The Tank, where a Living Oceans aquarium is set up in 90 minutes, then nature takes over.

Today, meet Cora. Cora is a coral polyp, one small animal that forms part of a much larger coral colony.

Together, thousands of polyps work as a connected living structure, creating the foundation of the reef.

Corals grow through a combination of:

  • sunlight
  • nutrients in the water
  • partnerships with microscopic algae

As the colony develops, it provides habitat, shelter, and structure for the rest of the ecosystem.

Every coral plays a role in supporting life on the reef. Over time, colonies grow, spread, and become an increasingly important part of the living ecosystem.

It all starts with a simple setup. Then nature takes over.

Meet the rest of the reef in the next episode of In The Tank.
