Two Mistakes That Ruin Your Aquarium
Transcript
Most problems don’t actually come from doing too little, they usually come from small things that go unnoticed.
One of the biggest risks is a snail dying in the system.
When a snail dies, it becomes what we call a nutrient bomb.
Because they break down slowly, you may not immediately realise it’s happened, but they can release nutrients into the water and lead to algae growth.
That’s why we ask you to be careful with your snails and keep an eye on them regularly.
We generally recommend:
- keeping just one larger snail in the tank
- checking on it daily
- making sure it’s active and behaving normally
If a snail dies, it usually won’t crash the aquarium, but it can create excess nutrients and make algae much harder to manage.
The second thing to be careful with is your auto feeder.
When it’s time to refill:
- always remove the auto feeder from the aquarium first
- never refill it while it’s sitting over the tank
- avoid accidentally dropping pellets into the water
Excess food is another easy way to create a nutrient spike and encourage unwanted algae growth.
Other than that, the best thing you can do is keep things simple.
Check in on your aquarium every day, observe what looks normal, and avoid making unnecessary changes.
Small daily checks are often the best way to keep your Living Oceans aquarium healthy and stable.
