Living Oceans

Lighting plays a vital role in maintaining a healthy Living Oceans Aquarium. The correct lighting program encourages healthy coral growth while helping minimise nuisance algae on the glass, rocks and sand.

Every Living Oceans Aquarium is supplied with a Netlea LED Light, pre-programmed by Living Oceans with an optimised lighting schedule designed specifically for your ecosystem. This schedule replicates a natural reef day–night cycle with sunrise, daylight, sunset and moonlight periods, giving your corals the light they need while helping to minimise nuisance algae.

Why Is the Lighting Program Important?

Corals rely on light to photosynthesise and remain healthy. At the same time, excessive light intensity or long lighting periods can encourage nuisance algae.

The Living Oceans lighting schedule has been carefully developed to provide the ideal balance between coral growth and algae control.

The programmed schedule includes:

  • Approximately 8 hours of daylight.
  • A gradual sunrise and sunset transition.
  • Moonlight periods before and after daylight for a more natural appearance.

The moonlight settings are primarily for visual effect and can be adjusted to suit your preference.

Recommended Light Intensity

For the best results, we recommend operating your Netlea LED Light at approximately 50–66% of its maximum intensity.

Running the light at full power is not recommended because it can:

  • Encourage excessive algae growth.
  • Increase maintenance requirements.
  • Place unnecessary stress on corals.

Small adjustments to the blue and white colour balance are perfectly acceptable provided the recommended intensity is maintained.

Automatic Lighting Schedule

Your Netlea LED Light is pre-programmed before delivery, so no setup is required.

If power is switched off, the lighting schedule is not lost. Once power is restored, the light automatically resumes the correct point in the lighting cycle based on the current time of day.

This means there is no need to reprogram the light after a power outage.

Lena Voice Control

The Netlea LED Light includes Lena Voice Control, allowing you to make simple changes using voice commands.

Begin each command by saying:

"Hey Lena..."

Available commands include:

  • Turn the light on.
  • Turn the light off.
  • Change colour.
  • Return to schedule.

Voice control is ideal for making temporary changes to the appearance of your aquarium. After changing the light colour, always use "Return to schedule" so the programmed lighting cycle continues as intended.

If you manually change the lighting using the app or voice control, the system will also automatically return to the programmed schedule after approximately 10 minutes.

Restoring the Lighting Program

In the unlikely event that your lighting program needs to be restored, simply reconnect to the Netlea V2 app.

Step 1 – Download the App

Install the Netlea V2 app on your Apple or Android device.

Step 2 – Connect to Your Light

  1. Open the app.
  2. Select Add Device.
  3. Choose Bluetooth.
  4. Enable Display Newly Powered Devices Only.
  5. Select your light.
  6. Tap Confirm Connection.

Step 3 – Select Natural Mode

Change the operating mode to Natural to activate the Living Oceans lighting schedule.

Step 4 – Confirm the Lighting Settings

Dawn (8:00 am – 11:00 am)
All models: Moon 3

Daylight (11:00 am – 7:00 pm)
LOA 80L: R2, W2, G1, B15
LOA 130L: R2, W2, G1, B20
LOA 200L: R2, W2, G1, B25

Dusk (7:00 pm – 9:00 pm)
All models: Moon 3

Step 5 – Save the Program

Tap Submit Schedule to save the settings, then disconnect Bluetooth.

Troubleshooting

The Light Isn't Responding to Voice Commands

Check that:

  • The light is powered on.
  • Voice control is enabled.
  • You're within approximately 5 metres of the controller.
  • The room is reasonably quiet.
  • You clearly begin each command with "Hey Lena."

The Light Doesn't Appear in the App

  • Ensure Bluetooth is enabled on your phone.
  • Confirm the light is powered on.
  • Restart the Netlea V2 app.
  • Scan for devices again.

The Colours Look Incorrect

Open the Netlea V2 app and:

  1. Confirm the light is operating in Natural Mode.
  2. Re-submit the Living Oceans lighting schedule.
