Aquarium LED Light Guide

Products:

Lighting plays a vital role in maintaining a healthy Living Oceans Aquarium. The correct lighting program encourages healthy coral growth while helping minimise nuisance algae on the glass, rocks and sand.

Every Living Oceans Aquarium is supplied with an Aquarium LED Light, pre-programmed by Living Oceans with an optimised lighting schedule designed specifically for your ecosystem. This schedule replicates a natural reef day–night cycle with sunrise, daylight, sunset and moonlight periods, giving your corals the light they need while helping to minimise nuisance algae.

Watch the video below to learn how to use the Aquarium LED Light, adjust the lighting settings and use Lena Voice Control. The guide underneath provides additional programming instructions and troubleshooting advice.

Why Is the Lighting Program Important?

Corals rely on light to photosynthesise and remain healthy. At the same time, excessive light intensity or long lighting periods can encourage nuisance algae.

The Living Oceans lighting schedule has been scientifically developed to provide the ideal balance between coral growth and algae control.

The programmed schedule includes:

  • 8 hours of daylight.
  • A sunrise and sunset transition.
  • Moonlight periods before and after daylight for a more natural appearance.

The moonlight settings are primarily for visual effect and can be adjusted to suit your preference.

The colour of the LED light should primarily be blue to enhance the colour fluorescence of the corals. Add small adjustments of red and white to suit your preference.

Programming the Light

The light may arrive pre-programmed to Living Oceans' default colours, duration and time settings. In the event that your lighting program needs to be restored, simply reconnect to the app to reprogram the light. Note the app interface can be updated, so the instructions below may need to vary.

Step 1 – Download the App

Install one of the following compatible apps on your Apple or Android device (our supplier confirms both work, if one doesn't work on your device, try the other):

Step 2 – Connect to Your Light

  1. Open the app.
  2. Select Add Device.
  3. Choose Bluetooth.
  4. Select your light.
  5. Tap Confirm Connection.

Step 3 – Programming the Light – Default Settings in Brackets

Add Schedule. Change the operating Mode to Natural.

Set Dawn (8:00 am – 11:00 am): Moon Level 3 (Power 1W).

Set Daylight, 8 hours (11:00 am – 7:00 pm): Custom Total Power 25–30W. Adjust blue, then add white and red to suit.

Set Dusk (7:00 pm – 9:00 pm): Moon Level 3 (Power 1W).

Step 5 – Save the Program

Tap Submit Schedule to save the settings, then disconnect Bluetooth.

Programmed to Remember

If power is switched off, the lighting schedule is not lost. Once power is restored, the light automatically resumes the correct point in the lighting cycle based on the current time of day.

This means there is no need to reprogram the light after a power outage.

Voice Control – "Hey Lena"

The Aquarium LED Light includes Voice Control, allowing you to make simple changes using voice commands.

Begin each command by saying:

"Hey Lena."

Then within 10 seconds you can give additional voice commands including:

  • Turn the light on.
  • Turn the light off.
  • Change colour.
  • Return to schedule.
  • Activate voice control.
  • Deactivate voice control. This disables the voice assistant until it is re-enabled.

Voice control is ideal for making temporary changes to the appearance of your aquarium. After changing the light colour, always use "Return to schedule" so the programmed lighting cycle continues as intended.

If you manually change the lighting using the app or voice control, the system should automatically return to the programmed schedule after approximately 10 minutes.

Touch Button

The Aquarium LED Light includes a manual touch button located on the underside of the light near the power cable, marked with a Touch sticker. The touch button allows you to temporarily turn the light on or off and cycle through different lighting modes without using the app or voice control.

These manual changes are temporary and do not affect your programmed lighting schedule. To return the light to its normal operating program, simply say "Hey Lena, Return to schedule" or wait approximately 10 minutes for the light to automatically resume the programmed schedule.

The touch button is ideal for temporarily changing the appearance of your aquarium while viewing or photographing your corals without altering your Living Oceans lighting program.

Troubleshooting

The Light Isn't Responding to Voice Commands

Check that:

  • The light is powered on.
  • Voice control is enabled.
  • You're within approximately 5 metres of the controller.
  • The room is reasonably quiet.
  • You clearly begin each command with "Hey Lena."

The Light Doesn't Appear in the App

  • Ensure Bluetooth is enabled on your phone.
  • Confirm the light is powered on.
  • Delete and reinstall the app.

Cannot Connect to Device

When connecting, a Chinese message may appear in the middle of the screen: 设备已添加.

It translates to: "Device has already been added" (or simply "Device added"). This means the light has already been paired or registered.

  • Delete the other devices and try again.
  • Uninstall the app and reinstall it.
  • Power the light off and on.

The Colours Look Incorrect

Open the app and re-submit the Living Oceans lighting schedule.
