The Lagoon - Intank Algae Refuge
Transcript
Ben brought along a new upgrade that’s now included as part of the Living Oceans experience.
It’s called the Sea Grass Lagoon, an in-tank refugium designed to work naturally within the aquarium.
Mounted discreetly at the back of the tank, it blends into the system without adding more equipment.
Inside sits Chaeto macro algae which uses the same aquarium light already growing the corals.
No extra:
- pumps
- lighting
- electronics
As the algae grows, it pulls nutrients from the water.
If nutrient levels rise from overfeeding or changes in the ecosystem, the algae helps balance the system by increasing growth and exporting nutrients.
The lagoon also provides shelter for small animals and micro life to grow safely.
It’s a low-tech solution inspired by larger reef systems but integrated directly into the aquarium.
Simple, hidden, and working quietly in the background.
Thanks for watching.
